Substitute Services

Linden Unified School District has periodic openings for substitute teachers. We know the importance of substitute teachers and their role in providing high-quality service to the educational programs conducted by our office.
 
 
Substitute Requirements
 
To substitute for LUSD, you must have a valid teaching credential, a valid substitute teaching permit, or be eligible to qualify for one of the following emergency substitute teaching permits.

Requirements for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit are as follows:

  • A BA/BS degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university (verified by official transcript).
  • Completion of the basic skills requirements (see California Commission on Teaching Credentialing (CTC) leaflet CL-667 www.ctc.ca.gov).
  • Completion of the appropriate CTC application form 41-4
  • Completion of the LiveScan fingerprinting process for CTC, the total fee is $64.00 if fingerprinted at SJCOE.
  • Payment of the required fees, currently $102.50 (fees are established by the CTC). This permit is processed as an online recommendation by SJCOE.

Requirements for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit with a CBEST Waiver are as follows:

  • A BA/BS degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university (verified by official transcript)
  • Completion of the appropriate CTC application form WV1SUB.
  • Valid Certificate of Clearance applied for directly with CTC at www.ctc.ca.gov). The fee is $52.50.
  • Completion of the LiveScan fingerprinting process for CTC.The total fee is $64.00 if fingerprinted at SJCOE.
  • Payment of the required fees, currently $100.00 (fees are established by the CTC).
 
Note: The Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit with a CBEST waiver is employer driven. An applicant cannot apply for this type of document on their own. The only way to satisfy the basic skills requirements for renewal of this document is to take the CBEST www.cbest.nesinc.com (http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/).

Requirements for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit for Prospective Teachers are as follows:

  • Completion of a minimum of ninety (90) semester units of coursework from a regionally accredited four year California college or university (verified by official transcripts)
  • Verification of current enrollment in a regionally accredited four-year California college or university (verified by official transcript or official letter from the college or university registrar).
  • Completion of the basic skills requirements (see CTC leaflet CL-667 www.ctc.ca.gov).
  • Completion of the appropriate CTC application Form 41-4.
  • Completion of the LiveScan fingerprinting process for CTC, the total fee is $64.00 if fingerprinted at SJCOE.
  • Payment of the required fees, currently $100.00 (fees are established by the CTC).

Substitute teachers are paid as follows:

  • 1st to 20th day = $200.00 per day
  • 21st to the end of the year = $225.00 per day
  • Long-term Substitute Teachers = $225 per day
  • California Credentialed Retired Teacher = $270 per day
