Section 504 Plans (Rehabilitation Act of 1973)
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
A 504 plan is a legal document that outlines a plan of instructional services for students in the general education setting. While not an IEP, the document usually describes the types of accommodations that will be made for a student in school.
The Linden Unified School District will provide a "free appropriate public education" (FAPE) to each qualified student with a disability who is in the school district's jurisdiction, regardless of the nature of severity of the disability, under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Under Section 504, FAPE consists of the provision of regular or special education and related aids and services designed to meet the student's individual educational needs as adequately as the needs of non-disabled students are met.
For more information, please contact the 504 Coordinator at your student's school. The 504 Coordinator is the Principal or Assistant Principal. If you should need further assistance, please contact LUSD 504 Coordinator, Jamie Hughes, Ed.D. (209) 887-8124, email Jamie Hughes, or visit the district office at 18527 E. Main Street, Linden, CA 95236.
